Spelks launch impressive debut single as they find comfort in The Happy Places!

Newcastle’s Spelks are delighted to announce the release of of their shimmering noise pop-inflected single, The Happy Places, out now via Montgomery Records

The brainchild of Jonathon Sabiston (guitar, drums, bass, keys, vocals), Spelks was borne out of a desire to create a musical project without compromise, writing and recording all the parts himself. Recorded in a cramped spare room in his Newcastle based flat, The Happy Places perfectly encapsulates Spelks sparse, yet quirky, noise pop sound.

Opening with scuzzy, discordant guitar notes and a simple, yet effective, toe tapping drum beat, The Happy Places offers an uplifting, summery charm, playfully straddling the line between the new wave pop sensibilities of Squeeze and the lo-fi alt.rock associated with acts like Surfer Blood and Cloud Nothings.

Rising indie-pop artist CHERITON - aka Nick Harrison - returns with the release of his dreamy new single Little Late Little Love, out now via So Good So Good.

Once again showcasing CHERITON’s ability to create infectious hook-driven, guitar-pop, Little Late Little Love combines crisp vocals with twinkling synths and jangling guitar twangs to make a sounds that is both sun-kissed and undeniably addictive from the offset. Produced by Andy Hall Hall (BastilleFickle FriendsJames Gillespie), Little Late Little Love is a song about poor form. “Its about bad timing, saying the wrong thing at the wrong time the end of a relationship and the messed up things people say and do to one another,” CHERITON explains. “I think people when faced with a break up, out of fear, can behave in very irrational ways. They become hurtful and are un-empathetic to each other.  In this song I wanted to reflect on both sides of the story. I’ve experienced both sides and they aren’t fun. Sometimes I write songs for other people and sometimes I write them for myself, Little Late Little Love is definitely the latter.”

Emerging hip-hop artist MC Salum returns with the release of his innovative new single Felina, out now.

Combining synth-laden beats, vibrant vocals and a seamless production, Felina feels instantly reminiscent of the likes of Tyler The Creator’s unique ability to create crisp, forward-thinking soundscapes. Guest vocalist Katie Lynch (stmartiins)’ warm, ethereal tone soars effortlessly over Liam James’ weightless production, whilst rapper Mike Vincent Colville’s dynamic, boisterous tone feels unapologetically British. Talking about the single Mike elaborates, “a gallus cowboy longs for his old flame, and finds out she is stuck working as a prostitute for a crime syndicate. In order to free her, he trades his soul to a shaman for eternal power. Felina is about the aftermath.”

Once again showcasing the eclectic trio’s ability to create a cocktail of sounds that are full of fun and energy, The Curse and the Currency of the Twenty-First Century is unapologetically ambiguous from the offset. Fans of the likes of LCD Soundsystem and The Go! Team will feel at home here. Talking about the single, the band explain, "the powers that be put a spell on the 21st century, and we are here to expose it. We’ve become slaves to our own false image and it needs to stop. People are being led to believe that the modern currency of social media is actually worth something, but it is a trap. Our freedom is under attack and this is sad. We feel sorry for the world, as we live inside such a narrow bandwidth, but there is still hope."

Moviestar are like no other band on earth. Having formed in the future on planet Fenris, Infinity VikThe Octopus Goddess and Anaconda create their own style of art punk pop, filled with sonic twists and eccentric electronica throughout. The compelling trio were chosen to go on a dangerous mission through space and time to retrieve “the stone” and save the world. Movistar were then sent to Norway, the safest nation in the world, in the dreaded year of 2016.
