Wild Spelks

“…a scuzz pop burner…” - Clash Magazine

“…melodic alt.tock that comes on like Weezer playing Teenage Fanclub.” - Classic Rock Magazine

Wild Spelks is the brainchild of Northeast musician and producer, Jonathon Sabiston. With the propellant Hail Mary picking up support from the likes of Rock Sound Magazine earlier this year, Wild Spelks aims to continue to impress industry tastemakers and fans alike with latest single, Black Spores.

Black Spores encapsulates the best of Wild Spelks in just over three minutes worth of high octane alt.rock. A fiercely overdriven, rallying cry to moving on from unhealthy relationships & habits, the track features a blistering high gain drum beat allied to melodic guitar and lyrics that pull at the heartstrings.

Inspired by early Jimmy Eat World, The Wonder Years & Alkaline Trio, Black Spores marks the final release of the year before a busy 2023 commences, with a debut EP and tour planned as well as live shows with Francis of Delirium already booked.

As Jonathan explains, “Black Spores marks a slight departure for me, with the song being melodically and lyrically darker than my usual output. The themes of moving on from unhealthy relationships and habits, sit alongside thoughts on damp, cold Tyneside life. This is my most ambitious production yet, combining heavy phasing drum beats and many layers of clipping guitars and vocals. This is my farewell to 2022 and I want to go out with a bang.”

Wild Spelks’ scuzzy yet melodic style of music has attracted features in some of the major publications including Classic Rock Magazine, Punktastic, Clash Magazine, Clout Magazine, Narc Magazine and many more.

Black Spores is out on 8th December 2022.
