Having made splash through debut single Time Will Tell, Welsh four-piece DD Darillo kickstart the new year with a sparkling new track, Loose Lips, Sink Ships.

Helmed by Boy Azooga’s Dylan Morgan, DD Darillo create an off-kilter, vibrant style of music, combining the nuanced flair of bands like Squeeze and Steely Dan with the neo-psychedelia of contemporary artists such as King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard and Pond.

Based on an old saying that originated as WW2 propaganda, meaning 'beware of unguarded speak’, Loose Lips, Sink Ships is a wry, acerbic take on the notion that we’ve all affected and been effected by speaking freely, creating circumstances that veer out of our control. The pertinent themes is an analogy of our current circumstances, and how the saturation of fake news via contemporary media has been utilised as a form of modern propaganda. Musically juxtaposed to the sardonic lyricism, Loose Lips, Sink Ships is an uptempo, energetic slice of new-wave pop packed full of grooving melodies, infectious hooks and glorious harmonies.

Also consisting of Oliver Beard (Bass, Backing Vocals) John Close (Guitar) and Alex Burch (Drums), DD Darillo’s debut single Time Will Tell picked up a raft of support from the likes of Huw Stephens BBC Introducing show, Adam Walton on BBC Radio WalesGod Is In The TV, Buzz MagThe Revue and many more. Loose Lips, Sink Ships will be followed by by a video shot by Craig Shankland (Estrons/Death Cult Electric) and contains a b-side remix by Hot Chip’s Rob Smoughton.

Combining hip-hop, alt-pop and experimental tendencies, YINYANG - aka Lauren Hannan - proves she’s a force to be reckoned with and not one to be pigeon-holed. BLOODHOUND / EARTHBOUND is packed with a punch from the offset as idiosyncratic lyricism is met with pulsating electronics and filled with fuzz.

Talking about the single, Lauren explains, “it’s about shedding your skin of a bad situation and understanding, on reflection, how much better you are without it. Realising you’re a bad bisssh. All my songs are characters, hence the playing cards; this is the next player in the series. All the players are an extension of me.”

Australian singer-songwriter Tom West returns with the release of his stunningly introspective new single Can You Hear The Birds Calling?, out now via AntiFragile Music.

Poignantly earnest from the offset, Can You Hear The Birds Calling? showcases West’s unique ability to pen richly emotive tracks that are impressively intricate. Channelling the likes of Neil Young, West’s distinctive vocal soars effortlessly over delicate guitar strums and cinematic soundscapes.

Talking about the single, West explains, “this song arose from a moment where I was watching one of the saddest things I’ve ever seen. The sun was shining and the birds were calling at the same time. Like most of the rest of the album it’s drawn from, I wrote it and started arranging it in the box as I went, rather than resolving the words and form of the song first and then building up from there.”
