Castells have unveiled latest single Peach, along with their debut EP Viola.

Peach is another illustration of a young band who continue to exhibit a level of songwriting mature beyond their years. Characterised by foot stomping drum beats, head bobbing guitar segments and the silky, emotive vocals of frontman Connor Crooks (vocals, guitar), Peach builds throughout; the band creating another stadium-ready banger.

The past 12 months have been a whirlwind for indie-pop band Castells. Following the successful release of single upon single the band’s intoxicating blend of indie-rock, combined with an unerring ability to write uplifting, catchy choruses, has cemented their place as ‘one’s to watch’.

Bridges release shimmering indie-rock single Go Long!

BRI.jpeg

Taken from the Empty Galleries EP, out later this year, Go Long was written while the band were often working away from home. Removed from family and friends, the song is a reminder of the importance of those who are closest to us and the need for us to maintain an emotional connection. Taking on new meaning during the pandemic, Go Long encapsulates the raw, emotive energy Bridges effortlessly create. Led by the poignant vocals of Ethan Proctor, Go Long builds throughout as soundscapes of chiming guitar shimmer, neatly fused together by a skilfully fluid rhythm section.

Also consisting of Josh Redman Thomas (guitar), Henry Matthews (Bass), Chessa Williams (Keys & Vocals) and Tom Farkas (Drums), Bridges have gained coverage from tastemakers such as Clash, Dork, Far Out Magazine and many more. The band aim to support the release of their EP later this year with live dates including Rough Trade Bristol (16th October), Seabright Arms London (3rd November *sold out) and Aatma Manchester (6th November).

YINYANG takes no prisoners on her visceral new single POISON DARTS / BOYISH CHARMS!

Irish hip-hop artist YINYANG takes no prisoners on her visceral new single POISON DARTS / BOYISH CHARMS, out now.

Once again proving she is a force to be reckoned with, YINYANG’s snarling new single is haunting, searing and packed with a punch. Channeling the likes of M.I.A. and Peaches, YINYANG - aka Lauren Hannan - bites back with powerful lyricism and fuzz-filled soundscapes. Talking about the single, Lauren explains, “there’s no cool or deep meaning for the song. I just had a few things to get off my chest, and now I feel much lighter for it.”

Tom West releases brooding new single Gimme What You Got!

TomWest-12.jpg

Australian singer-songwriter Tom West returns with his brooding new single Gimme What You Got, out now via AntiFragile Music. The single is taken from West’s upcoming album I’m Livin’!, due for release on 18th June 2021.

Combining folk-rock, country and blues-tinged sensibilities, Tom West proves he’s a force to be reckon with and not one to be pigeon-holed. Premiering on Americana UK,  West’s distinctive, androgynous vocal style is at the forefront throughout, channeling the likes of The Tallest Man On Earth and Ray LaMontagne as a result.

Talking about the single, West explains, “Gimme What You Got came about during a time when I’d often take long walks up though the expensive suburbs on the edge of the hills that overlook the city. It struck me as weird, while walking past day after day, how empty and lifeless the massive, expensive mansions seemed in contrast to the busting and creative pubs, dive bars and humble share houses where I usually lived. So I guess this song is about being in one world and peering across a membrane into another that is close enough to reach out to, but so arcane.”

IRJA release seductive indie-electro single Heavy State of Mind!

IR.jpeg

London-based Swiss duo, IRJA, began writing and recording together in 2019, following a chance encounter. Sharing a passion for the sparse, intimate soundscapes of Berlin’s electronic music scene, the pair set about creating their own take on the genre.

Combining gentle, reflective vocals with shimmering, organic electronica, IRJA have produced an emotionally rich sound; cerebral, melodic and heartfelt.

Single Heavy State of Mind, explores themes of a broken relationship and the impact it can have upon us. The weight we place on our shoulders can feel like we carry the whole world on them: whether we are the cause or effect. The track drifts beautifully from the opening bars as gently plucked guitar floats and flutters, sumptuously accented by dreamy vocals and hypnotic synths.

Eliza Shaddad shares new single Now You're Alone + announces November tour dates!

Sudanese-Scottish artist Eliza Shaddad gets acidly poignant on new single Now You’re Alone, out now via Rosemundy Records/Wow and Flutter. This is the third single taken from Eliza’s upcoming album The Woman You Want, due for release 16th July 2021.

Now You’re Alone is an epic enquiry into connection amid isolation. Written through all the tumult of early 2020, Eliza says “I was feeling apart from the world and raging against that, watching the news everyday and feeling like I wanted to scream, so I wrote a song you can scream-sing to”. Half apology, half power-trip the Bond-esque opus is a key darker moment from the forthcoming record.

The single stretches from an intimately acoustic ode into a string-drenched, guitar driven anthem that showcases Eliza’s most vulnerable and vitriolic sides. Eliza’s vocal reaches new heights with a soaring longing that is equalled only by the orchestral arrangement, with eerily sliding strings bringing a desperate tension and unrest to the stark lyrics and indie bedrock soundscape. Recorded incredibly at home in Cornwall with producer BJ JacksonNow You’re Alone was mixed by Grammy Award winner Sam Okell (Celeste, PJ Harvey, Graham Coxon) and mastered by Tim Rowkins (Rina Sawayama).

Full list of Eliza’s upcoming tour dates available here.

Hollis Lomax push boundaries on eclectic alt.pop single Past Time!

HL.jpeg

Hollis Lomax are delighted to announce the release of their latest odd pop single Past Time, out now and available to stream on digital platforms.

Absorbing a variety of influences, ranging from Ought to Parquet Courts and Brian Eno to Talk Talk, Hollis Lomax have constructed a sound that uniquely straddles the line between contemporary and retro. Past Time exemplifies the band’s ability to produce endearing distinctive pop music. Twinkling keyboard sounds flutter in a dream-like trance, and are accented beautifully by jazz-infused percussion, a wry crooning vocal delivery and chiming guitar notes.

Reflecting on a past relationship, the themes of Past Time assess how life has since changed. The nostalgia is coloured by the difficulties of navigating adult-life and the responsibilities that accompany it. The three-part nature of the song is supposed to feel like a journey in which, by the second part, the lyrics show a more mature, adult approach to romance. However, the final section presents an internal conflict, as it paints a messy emotional frenzy, led by the lyrics ‘Let’s go there’, which refer to a desire to return to a ‘Past Time’ of emotional intensity and youthful excitement.

Hollis Lomax is Will Rowland (Keyboard/Vocals) Hugo Keays (Guitar) Will Ellis (Bass Guitar) and Rob Taylor (Drums). The band released their first single in 2019 picking up support from the likes of BBC Introducing Oxford, God Is In The TV and New York’s Come Here Floyd. Having played headline shows at The Cellar, Oxford and The Islington, London, Hollis Lomax will re-emerge from the lockdown with a support slot, alongside Pynch, at The Waiting Room, Stoke Newington in August.
