Drawing influence from the likes of Massive Attack and Portishead, the trip-hop duo are known for their eclectic use of retro-synths, brooding soundscapes and evocative lyricism. These elements are utilised across the EP to reflect and explore themes of abuse, mental health and empowerment. This is an EP about protecting one’s boundaries and ultimately, coming out of other side stronger. Vocalist and producer Aneshka Pelowska is profoundly honest throughout this collection of songs, sincerely sharing how everything fell apart before it came to life, leaving her homeless, lost in trauma, and confronting the raw reality of depression and PTSD. The EP is ultimately a document of survival and transformation. A journey through chaos; a homecoming to oneself.
Aneshka elaborates, “although difficult and tough, that experience was the transformation I needed in order to rip my sense of identity away from my past, and find a new meaning and an idea for myself. I felt the overwhelming power of sea and oceans in my veins, fires were burning my soul and shedding the old layers of my identity with painful speed. The earth was full of charged particles travelling through my body and giving me strength and confidence in order to fight for my survival. Nature didn’t just comfort me, it transformed me, it made me into a witch; a goddess of resilience. We chose a raw, alternative path, one that steps away from polished perfection and instead embraces struggle, emotion, and human complexity. But just as much, it’s about connection. A connection to the listener on the other end, someone who might need music that purges, that purifies, that empowers.”
Aneshka (vocals/synths) and Dave Tynan (bass/guitar) had admired each other's separate musical journeys in other bands for years. When Aneshka moved from Poland, she immersed herself in open-mic nights and sang for a variety of local bands. When an unfortunate accident with a glass of wine destroyed a laptop with several months’ worth of compositions on it, she turned to fellow musician Dave to help her get back on track. Now, the duo write songs that speak about mental health, with resilience running through everything they do. Aneshka is also part of the 3.5% of female music producers in a male-dominated space, and an immigrant who started a band with no school friends, no scene connections, nothing handed over, just the music and a drive to create something real.
The duo have received support from the likes of The Scotsman, The Herald, The Skinny, God Is in The TV, BBC Introducing Scotland and Amazing Radio's Jim Gellatly, with their previous single Fire being Amazing Radio and Valley 89.5 in Australia's top trending track recently. Despite boasting only a handful of songs, the duo has amassed over 200,000 streams across Spotify and YouTube alone.
