Jewelia

“Thoroughly talented.” - Leo Ulph, BBC Radio Kent

Alt-pop newcomer Jewelia prepares to release her shimmering new single Second Best on 21st October 2022.

Combining enchanting piano melodies and wistful guitars with Julia’s butter soft vocals, Second Best feels instantly heartwarming. With nods to nineties pop classics such as Natalie Imbruglia’s ‘Torn’, Second Best transitions from an intimate acoustic ballad into a bittersweet, alt-pop anthem, sounding akin to the likes of mxmtoon or Maisie Peters. The single is about feeling inadequate in a society that celebrates the idea of the ‘American Dream’ and going from rags to riches, while collectively pitying the masses living average lives. “Coming to terms with the fact that you are average is not a topic that is covered much in pop culture," Jewelia explains. “If that sounds like a depressing subject to you, ask yourself why. It shouldn’t be - most of us are just like that”.

Jewelia is currently based in London. Her self-produced music has garnered a warm welcome from listeners, with over 1.2 million views on her YouTube channel and over 20,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. She has also been featured on the Chill Pop Hits and New Music Friday Romania Spotify editorial playlists, as well as the RISING: Pop chart on Tidal. Previous supporters include CLOUT, BBC Radio Kent’s Leo Ulph and BBC Introducing’s Abbie McCarthy to name a few.

Second Best - taken from Jewelia’s upcoming album Strong in My Own Way, and also available in Dolby Atmos spatial audio - is out on 21st October 2022.
