Jarmila Xymena Gorna is an esteemed London-based “Vocal Architect”, composer, producer and songwriter. Her work resides in the intersection of high art and visceral emotion and has been exhibited all over the world, ranging from the ICA and Jazz Cafe to Catania, Sicily and The Big Big World Festival in Scotland.
Gorna’s creative essence was forged within Poland’s acclaimed Lodz Grand Opera House, where she was nearly born on stage during her mother’s performance. Her destiny seemingly mapped out, Gorna graduated from the jazz faculty Katowice's Academy of Music, before going on to invent the Gorna Method; a unique, creative music teaching system, designed to teach piano and musical expression without relying on traditional notation.
With an idiosyncratic approach to arrangement, Gorna builds intricate vocal landscapes in the privacy of her own studio. Her evocative, cinematic methods have garnered praise from international press including The Herald, who lauded Gorna’s “audacious, incredible vocal harmonies…", Kindred Spirit, RnR Magazine and, most recently, The Vinyl District who named her their Artist of the Week siting latest single Escape - Dihangfa as “…a profound and enduring piece of songwriting."
Described as a “modern day Ibn Ezra” by Radio Free Nachlaot, Gorna’s wordless debut album Hashgachah was nominated for the BBC 3 Radio World Music Award, while her sophomore release Aspaklaria, a production tour de force blending signature vocal layering with deep synth-bass and drum loops, was hailed as an “adventurous album” by The Musician. Now, Gorna has her sights set on completing her third studio album, Ahava (Hebrew for ‘love’). Aiming to achieve a masterful sonic finish, Gorna has partnered with Los Angeles-based engineer Matty Harris (Kelley Clarkson, Lil Yachty, Travis Barker). The Berklee alum studied under masters such as Jaycen Joshua and Dave Pensado, and brings a Grammy-winning pedigree to Gorna’s distinctive sound, bridging her Polish-Jewish heritage with a polished, modern LA edge.
