Jarmila Xymena Gorna

Esteemed composer, songwriter and vocalist Jarmila Xymena Gorna is delighted to announce the release of her most intimate work to date, Escape - Dihangfa. Featuring Welsh polymath Philip Lee Jones, noted for his involvement in projects such as Gwibdaith Hen Frân and Mim Twm Llai, Escape - Dihangfa is a transcendental bilingual love song between a British woman of Polish Jewish origin (Gorna) and a Welsh man (Jones).

Weaving evocative, cinematic vignette’s seen through the prism of Gorna’s own, lived experiences, the track is an illustration that transformative love remains unyielding at any age.

Telling the story of two Renaissance souls finding one another in the profound richness of mid-life, Escape - Dihangfa was written by Gorna after the loss of both her parents to Alzheimer’s. Often described as the “silent epidemic”, the heartfelt impact upon a family member witnessing a loved one suffer with this disease can be debilitating.

This is borne out in Escape - Dihangfa which builds a metaphorical, physical and psychological lore finding The Woman fearful of a future potentially lived within the prison of Alzheimer’s. Despite The Man’s defiant promise to "look forward to all of her”, the push and pull of love versus a contemplated sacrifice emerge thematically throughout. Nevertheless, the heroes of the song evoke the overwhelming emotion that it's never too late for a new beginning, defiantly affirming love is not a youthful luxury, but a vital, enduring right.

Mixed and mastered by Grammy award winners George Murphy and Stuart Hawkes respectively and featuring David Farren (Bad Manners), the song taps into Gorna’s idiosyncratic vocal delivery and avant-garde approach to songwriting. Escape - Dihangfa is a bittersweet, literate piece of art that is both plaintive yet stirringly optimistic.

Jarmila Xymena Gorna’s unique performances have been seen all over the world, ranging from the ICA and Jazz Cafe to Catania, Sicily and the Big Big World Festival in Scotland. The collaboration with Jones is a beautiful, artistic synchronicity. The "Voice of the Slate" whose work as a poet, multi-instrumentalist and artist is rooted in the landscape of North Wales, Jones performs his poetic magic to adapt Gorna’s lyrics into a seamless, mystical Welsh dialogue.

Escape - Dihangfa is out on 27th February 2026.
