Multi-instrumentalist Jack Ellis is back with his latest collection of dynamic, heartfelt songs in the shape of his new EP, Out Of Luck, out 7th September 2018 via District South Records.
The EP was written based around the question; do we choose our own luck in life? Ellis elaborates “the question swirled around my head whilst bouncing between the idea of right and wrong. We watch reckless youth make the same mistakes we once made, still indulging in the same temptations. It begs the question, did we choose this path ourselves?” There is passion and true depth in each story. Lead single Small Change is a fierce blues-infused single, combining Ellis’ powerful, grit-infused vocals with reverb heavy guitars and choral harmonies to create something akin to that of Gary Clarke Jr and The Stone Foxes. Alternatively, Merrygoround slows down the pace of the EP, allowing Ellis’ vocal to soar effortlessly over the cinematic soundscapes, shadowing his musical influences of Ben Howard and Jack Savoretti.
As a result of being a key feature in Cardiff’s live circuit, Jack has assembled a talented team of session players to support his heartfelt lyrics and augment the delicate arpeggiated guitar lines that have become his signature sound. Since being voted Best Breakthrough Act in 2015, Jack has gone on to win Best Solo Artist in 2017 at The Cardiff Music Awards. He has also received radio plays from BBC Wales as well as receiving significant support from the likes of Dermot O’Leary on BBC Radio 2, including being invited to perform live in the studio. Jack has also gained praise from well-regarded publications including With Guitars, Gigslutz and Americana UK to name a few. This has culminated in Jack becoming one of the rising stars of Welsh music, an artist who looks set to continue his growth through the release of his latest EP.
