What Would Jesus Drive EP Review in Buzzin Music!

What Would Jesus Drive release their EP The Girls Are In Charge through EyeSeeSound on 4th October and have started to receive big licks already!

The online music website, Buzzin Music, have given the up and coming release an excellent review on their pages.

"What Would Jesus Drive are fresh, addictive and very 2010. Their ordered chaotic lo-fi fusion sound of electro funk and white garage punk is a welcome distraction in these days of over-produced, save, flat ringtone-friendly music." - Buzzin Music

You can read the review in full HERE.

Having joined forces with EyeSeeSound, the release of the EP will mark the beginning of a busy few months. Together, they will release The Girls Are In Charge EP, a physical version of their debut album Black and Blue and not to mention plenty of free downloads and singles taking them into 2011. The Girls Are In Charge EP is the start of an exciting quest to take the UK scene by storm.

Introducing… Moneytree - “The Great Indoors Part III”

Moneytree

The Great Indoors Part III (EP) | 25th October 2010

Moneytree return with the third part of The Great Indoors triptych. The record continues the theme of the previous two EP’s with the band collaborating with various musicians, producing an organic, exciting sound unique only to Moneytree.

The Great Indoors Part III takes the band’s intricate alternative sound to a whole new level. This record sees collaborations with Band Of Skulls on the track “Grave & Aloof” and Thomas Tantrum, The Moulettes and Histories Of Rosenberg on the song “World of Autumn”. The eclectic sound of the record is reinforced by a multitude of musicians playing a plethora of instruments including horns, cellos, likembe (thumb piano), a percussion group and even a saw!

The raw sound is brought together beautifully by producer Joe Gibb who has worked with The Kinks, David Bowie, Madonna, Leftfield and Million Dead and marks the return of singer Campbell Austin’s voice after a year long sabbatical due to a growth on his larynx. Not that you’d notice though. He shows no ill effects of the break with his voice showing-up fantastically on tracks such as “Medicineland”, which will be the track included on Sotones sampler 1,313.

The Science of Gambling is available to stream HERE and the EP is released on 25th October 2010.

Moulettes a go go in Album Review Round Up!

Moulettes release their self titled debut album next week and have been receiving much coverage from the music press, so much so that we decided to give you a little round up of the most recent excellent reviews that have come their way...

First up comes a review from the brilliantly titled website Punk Rock Ist Nicht Tot who have given the band a stirring write up and scored the album 4/5!

"...a geniunely unique and exciting sound, they sound like the result of an unspeakably horrific unholy union between Gogol Bordello, Nick Cave, Bellowhead, and the Stray Cats but without the punk element, not pissed and with two female singers with stunning voices! - Punk Rock Ist Nicht Tot

Just Press Play have been equally effusive in their praise for what has been described as the most ambitious "folk" album of the year. With scores given out of 10 for various facets of the album, the website scored the band 10/10 for Originality and 9/10 for Vocals, with an overall aggregate score of 8/10!

"With splendid vocal harmonization, great songwriting and a flat out wildly original concept, the Moulettes have given us what may be the best debut of 2010." - Just Press Play

You can read the full review HERE.

Finally, Noripcord complete a trio of rip roaring reviews for the bands debut album, with another impressive article complementing the highly original nature of the record. The website settled on a score of 7/10 which is not too shabby...

"They even make world music cool, as with Talisman, which is brimming with sultry folklorico passion, a style that marries wonderfully with the free-form gypsy groove that moves like an undercurrent throughout." - Noripcord

Read the full article on the Noripcord website.

If all that wasn't enough Moulettes styled goodness for you, The Line of Best Fit have featured the brand new video for the track "Devil of Mine" which you can watch HERE.

The album is out to buy on 16th August.

Introducing the Moulettes and free track download!

Cellist Hannah Miller, bassoonist Ruth Skipper and Ollie Austin (guitar, drums) have been playing and singing together for several years. But with the addition of violinist Georgina Leach and percussionist Rob Arcari in 2008, the Moulettes’ sinewy, melodic sound has come into true focus.

The band have shared stages, recordings, and personnel with the likes of Mumford & Sons (Ted Dwane of the Mumfords used to be their bassist) Mystery Jets, Band of Skulls (Emma Richardson guests on the album), Liz Green and even the Ting Tings – supporting the latter on tour as three-quarters of electro-pop band Modernaire. And they can count the Unthanks, Noisettes and Robert Plant as fans.

Live, they have charisma to burn, and this summer they grace stages at Glastonbury, Secret Garden Party, Big Session and Larmer Tree, amongst many others. Recently they have busked across Europe; led music workshops with kids in Bosnia; gigged with a 100-voice choir; and organised a festival in their own back garden.

The record itself is the most ambitious ‘folk’ album you’ll hear all year. It splices together strands of classical, gypsy, jazz, alt.-rock and even some avant-garde to create a complex yet accessible whole. Highlights include the epic, atmospheric story-song “Devil Of Mine” (which boasts a mind-blowing video included as an extra on the disc); the Zepplin-esque folk-metal of “Requiem” and the entrancing prog-pop of “Wilderness”.

You can download the track "Talisman" from the album HERE.

The collection heralds the arrival of a profoundly original force in roots music.

Introducing… Haunted Stereo

Haunted Stereo are an alt-folk/ indie/ experimental six-piece line-up from Southampton.

Creating intricate layers of sound with an array of melodic instruments – including banjo, mandolin, accordion, piano, violin, electric guitar and percussion -, Haunted Stereo are very much about the thrills and fun that is to be had from writing and playing music together.

The band have supported numerous critically acclaimed acts such as Rough Trade protégés The Veils, folk-hero Johnny Flynn, neo-orchestral cult act The Irrepressibles and American jazz swing act Hot Club of Cowtown, as well as pop gems Thomas Tantrum and Micachu and The Shapes. But the group are also very much embedded in the local Southampton scene, frequently playing for nights such as Ejector Seat and Long Live Rock'n'Roll. As of Autumn 2009, Haunted Stereo became a member of the Sotones Records family. The band earned critical acclaim, most notably being chosen as a Track of the Day by Q Magazine (online).

It’s so lovely when you discover something genuinely beautiful.” – Q Magazine

Since their inception in 2007, the band has released three EPs. In Bars (November 2008) and Tree House (March 2009) have featured on XFM, BBC 6 Music and BBC Radio 1. In November 2009, they released their third EP, Cross the Sea on Sotones. 2009 also saw Haunted Stereo feature on the Wears the Trousers Mag’s tribute compilation to Odetta with an energetic interpretation of “Santy Anno”.

Now, with a body of great records behind them, Haunted Stereo are ready to release double A-side On A Pin / Lock the Doors. The single truly captures the beauty and intricate sound that Haunted Stereo have honed so well and, more importantly, reflect a band that are ready to make their mark on the UK music scene.

Introducing… Sotones (Record Label)

We are very happy to announce that we are officially working on Sotones Records' roster. In the coming months, Sotones will be treating us all to a plethora of music from bands and musicians like Haunted Stereo, Fresh Legs, Moneytree, Nato, Lonely Joe Parker, The Moulettes and many more.

Members of Sotones will guest on Resonance FM's Hello Goodbye show on 13th February 2010. To get an idea of what the label are about (that's a passion for music and a love of fun by the way...), you can listen to this Sound Cloud Sotones documentary they recently recorded.

Sotones was founded as a co-operative. This means that the artists are also members, who own the label entirely together.

The first label sampler was reviewed in Kruger Magazine and received airplay on several local BBC Introducing shows. It featured artists who are still with Sotones today as well as Blakfish and Band Of Skulls (then known as Fleeingnewyork) who have since gone on to do great on their own.

Since its inception, Sotones has come leaps and bounds with the first new signings since 2007, a distribution deal with Believe and their first 12" and 7" releases as well as founding a publishing arm. A highlight of summer 2009 (alongside festival spots for various Sotones artists at Glastonbury, SGP, Bestival and Burningman among others) was the Bike Tour, where Sotones Lonely Joe Parker played twelve dates in fourteen days, traveling between shows by bicycle and co-headlining with other Sotones artists along the way.

Sotones acts have played across the UK as well as Ireland, France, Belguim, Italy, Spain, Estonia, Germany and the US. These include support tours for The Ting Tings, The Holloways and Mystery Jets, as well as requested support slots for Noisettes, Thomas Tantrum, Delays, SixNationState and me:one.

The label has released over 25 records and the label's output has received local and national radio play on BBC stations including BBC Radio 1, 6Music and Radio 2 as well as Xfm and Resonance FM. Sotones artists have caught the attention of national and international traditional and online media, including Kerrang!, NME, Rock Sound, Drowned In Sound, Artrocker, Clash Magazine and Kruger Magazine.
