Oceansize and Porcupine Tree release joint single for Cardiacs Tim Smith…
Split Single Release:
STEVEN WILSON: Stoneage Dinosaurs // OCEANSIZE: Fear

"...this is extraordinary and timeless music..."
- Classic Rock Prog Magazine
Leader Of The Starry Skies is a tribute to Tim Smith, lead singer of Cardiacs, who has been tragically stuck in hospital for two years after suffering a heart attack. The album is due to be re-released on vinyl, as well as a new split single featuring Stoneage Dinosaurs by Steven Wilson and Fear by Oceansize.
These two tracks are taken from Leader Of The Starry Skies, and both the single and album are due for a vinyl release on the 16th April to coincide with Indie Record Store Day.
These two tracks aren't so much covers as they are tributes to one man's beautiful music; music that inspired a generation of underground musicians to pick up an instrument to create something that they wanted to hear, rather than settle for what was being played to them on the radio.Tim Smith's cryptic and experimental songwriting style makes it impossible not to hear how much influence Cardiacs have had on the current wave of British alternative artists. Both tracks have very much been a labour of love for the artists involved, impeccably recreating the signature sound that made Cardiacs stand head and shoulders above their contemporaries.
- Mike Vennart (Oceansize)
Organised by ex-Cardiacs Bic Hayes and Mark Cawthra, Cardiacs' guitarist Kavus Torabi and Spratley's Japs singer Jo Spratley, Leader Of The Starry Skies features contributions from Oceansize, Steven Wilson (of Porcupine Tree) Andy Partridge (of XTC), Max Tundra, Knifeworld, North Sea Radio Orchestra and many more.

Leaders Of The Starry Skies: A Tribute To Tim Smith was previously released on CD and MP3 via Believers Roast on 6th December 2010 and can be purchased from The Genepool website and iTunes.
Stoneage Dinosaurs and Fear are both taken from the album and will be released as a split single on K-Scope.
Both releases will be available to buy on vinyl from all good independent record stores on 16th April 2011.
All profits from the sale of the single and album will go directly to Tim Smith.

The album acts as a tribute to Tim Smith, lead singer of Cardiacs, who has been tragically stuck in hospital for two years after suffering a heart attack. The 17 tracks on the album aren’t so much covers as they are tributes to one man's beautiful music; music that inspired a generation of underground musicians to pick up an instrument to create something that they wanted to hear rather than settle for what was being played to them on the radio.

Esperi - Made For Life
Esperi is velvet voiced Scottish multi-instrumentalist Chris Lee-Marr, and he's back with new single, double a-side Made For Life, just in time for Christmas. Chris has already established himself as one of the most promising acts to come out of Scotland, having been featured on BBC Radio 1 Scotland and BBC's The Culture Show, supporting the likes of Johnny Flynn and Ólöf Arnalds, and being a seasoned regular on the UK festival circuit.
Title track Made For Life showcases Chris' talent for creating layered acoustic melodies, conjuring up images of cold winter afternoons spent curled up beside a fire with a loved one, December sunshine streaming through the window. "Snowman" sees Chris returning to memories of a childhood spent playing in the snow. The innocence conveyed in his voice, beautifully complimented by a backing vocal provided by his wife, Cat Lee-Marr, creates such a swelling rush of emotion that you can almost taste the snowflakes of years gone by as they land on your lips.
You can stream the single HERE.
Made For Life is being released via Olive Grove Records as a double a-Side. There will be 50 beautifully handcrafted Limited Edition CDs made available upon its release, available from today.

Each track has very much been a labour of love for the artists involved, impeccably recreating the signature sound that made Cardiacs stand head and shoulders above their contemporaries. Leader of the Starry Skies creates an atmosphere that's almost carnival like in nature, plunging the listener into a world of psychadelia, soaked in progressive punk. With luck, this album will introduce the work of Tim Smith and Cardiacs to a new generation of potential artists, showing them that you don't always have to colour inside the lines to be creative.
