News: ABoF on Amazing Radio, DJ-ing at MOJO’s Honours List Aftershow and releases galore!

Posted Mon, 07 Jun 2010
We've been very busy here at ABoF HQ and we're not letting the heat stop us with plenty of brilliant new releases to last us throughout the summer, an appearance on Amazing Radio and a DJ set at the MOJO Honours List Aftershow.

This week, we'll be recording our second appearance on Amazing Radio. We get to critique some of the best (and worst!) that the underground has to offer. The show is hosted by Trevor Dann and you can listen to us HERE on Thursday 17th June 2010 at 7pm and again on Saturday 19th June at 3pm.

MOJO Honours List Aftershow

This Thursday, we'll be DJ-ing at the MOJO Honours List Aftershow at Parker McMillian in London. We're on early and it's up to us to get the party started. We're looking forward to getting back on the decks after the Empire Awards Aftershow back in March.

A Summer of Releases

Many of our bands will be releasing records this summer, defiant and undeterred by the festival season!

Today (June 7th) sees Juniper Leaf release their debut album Broom, Briars, Torches from the Fire. The Line of Best Fit hailed the debut effort as a "a strange and often thrilling record which deserves attention."

Meanwhile, we have two single releases, both very different and equally awesome. Moneytree release their single Wake Up And Pay Your Overheads today. The 405 have an exclusive download of the single HERE along with an interview with the band.

Our very own electro rockers, The Unkindness of Ravens also release a single today - White Road. The release of the single is accompanied by free download track "Red Sun"; grab a copy of that track HERE.

Later in the month, Manhattan musical legend, Chris Leo, releases the much anticipated The Sunny Day I Caught Tintarella di Luna for a Picnic at the Cemetary. Chris Leo's Vague Angels is his latest project. He already has quite the following having already been a founding member of The Lapse and The Van Pelt. The album has already received a very respectable 8/10 from VICE Magazine with more to come later in the month.

In July Irish instrumentalist post-rockers Kasper Rosa release EP2. Watch out for a cover mount track and Exposure feature in Rock Sound's July issue.

Cats and Cats and Cats are also back and this time, they're releasing an album on Function Records - If I'd Had Antlers.

Scots indie-boppers Tango in the Attic release their album Bank Place Locomotive Society. The upbeat five-piece have been hailed as Scotland's answer to Vampire Weekend.

Introducing… Chris Leo’s Vague Angels

Posted Mon, 12 Apr 2010

Chris Leo needs no introduction; his involvement with The Lapse and The Van Pelt was only the beginning of his varied and colourful musical journey. With these two bands, Chris found underground success and had begun to lay the foundations, note by note, of what was to come.

The Van Pelt was somewhat of an indie rock powerhouse, with Chris joined by Brian Maryansky (who later joined Jets to Brazil) and Toko Yasuda (of Enon and ex-Blonde Redhead). The band released the albums Stealing From Our Favourite Thieves and The Sultans of Sentiment on Gern Blandsten, however they shortly disbanded in 1997.

Chris and Toko then formed The Lapse and soon released debut album Betrayal!, again, on Gern Blandsten and second album Heaven Ain’t Happening on Southern Records. After Toko left the band to join Enon in late 1999, Chris continued on his own for a while and eventually signed to Matador in 2000.

Chris’ latest musical project, Vague Angels, finally sees Manhattan’s own wordy, wandering minstrel release the much-anticipated The Sunny Day I Caught Tintarella di Luna for a Picnic at the Cemetery on Expect Candy Records. The album conjures-up the finest elements of Leo’s writing style – from the dissonant riff-based rock of The Lapse to the entrancing melodies of The Van Pelt. However, songs like “The Moon, The Metaphor” hark back to a sound more akin to The Velvet Underground. This album is Chris Leo’s finest accomplishment to date and the sound of a musician / writer with integrity and intelligence as well as heart and soul.

The Sunny Day I Caught Tintarella di Luna for a Picnic at the Cemetery is out on Expect Candy Records 21st June 2010.

ABoF News: Empire Magazine Awards, ABoF TV and more!

Posted Fri, 26 Mar 2010
The evenings are getting lighter, the weather is ever warmer and with the onset of spring we're all feeling positive and happy here and ABoF towers! We won't keep babbling for too long, let's just go straight to our latest news round-up.

As ever, if you want to contact us about PR, DJ-ing at events and aftershows or just wanna' drop us a wee "hello" via email, please contact us here: info [at] abadgeoffriendship [dot] com.

Empire Magazine Awards 2010

We've been asked to DJ at the Empire Magazine Awards aftershow this Sunday at Soho House. It's been a little while since we've graced the decks but we're really looking forward to spinning some fine tunes this Sunday evening. Our buddies, the most excellent Jo & Danny, will also be playing a fine selection of tunes. They also happened to share the decks with us last August at the Kerrang! Awards Aftershow 2009.

ABoF TV

We were hoping to get ABoF TV up and running this month but we've been subject to some delays. However, good things come to those who wait and we can tell you right now it's going to be ace! The first installment features footage from the These Monsters album launch back in February, an interview with the band, Function Records and live performances from These Monsters and Shield Your Eyes.

Special super, duper thanks to Overthrow Productions - without them ABoF TV would not be possible.

New Additions!

"New additions?" we hear you cry? Yes, our roster is positively bursting with lovely musical goodies. Our latest additions to the PR roster are the wonderful Juniper Leaf from London and the excellent Chris Leo's Vague Angels from NYC.

Juniper Leaf release their debut album Broom, Briars, Torches from the Fire in June. The album is a gorgeous example of a modern day pysche-folk band creating wonderful heartfelt imagery through their emotive melodies.

You may have heard of Chris Leo before - he was in two brilliant cult indie bands, The Lapse and The Van Pelt in the 90s. Chris is back with his latest project, Chris Leo's Vague Angels, with the album The Sunny Day I Caught Tintarella di Luna for a Picnic by the Cemetery, also in June.

More Amazing Radio Fun

It seemed our rambling nonsense went down well with those chaps over at Amazing Radio last month so they've asked us back again. We'll be chatting about unsigned bands end of April. Watch this space for more details!
