The Moth & The Mirror: “Honestly, This World” out now!

    Posted Mon, 07 Nov 2011

"Scottish supergroup", The Moth & The Mirror, release their debut album Honestly, This World today via Olive Grove Records. The album track "Fire" is also available to download today via the A Badge of Friendship Soundcloud page.

The Moth & The Mirror - Fire by abadgeoffriendship

The Moth & The Mirror comprise of members taken from an array of Scottish talent including: Stacey Sievwright from The Reindeer Section and Arab Strap (vocals/guitar), Gordon Skene from Frightened Rabbit (guitar/vocals), Louis Abbott from Admiral Fallow and Song of Return (guitar/vocals) Kevin McCarvel (bass), Iain Sandilands (percussion) and Peter Murch (drums).

Honestly, This World is the band's debut album following on from their first official release, the single, Germany. It's a melodic tour de force; the arrangement of the backing track creating deeply textured soundscapes that elevate Stacey's vocals to a transcendental plateau to captivate the listener. Tracks like "Boxes" showcase The Moth & The Mirror's ability to strip a song down to its very basics, before exploding into a glorious shower of noise and distortion. As a whole, the album works like a well oiled machine, each track feeding into the next to create an experience that's more than the sum of all its parts.

"Germany (Headron Remix)", which is a remix of their first single, can also be downloaded via the ABoF Soundcloud page.

ABoF News - NME, Q Awards and more...

Congratulations for making it this far and thanks for reading - so what else have we been up to?

Paul and Claire were featured in the November 5th issue of NME, talking about the financial aspects of running an independent company and how they cope on a day-to-day basis. Make sure you pick up a copy this week!

Team ABoF donned their glad rags and headed down to the Q Awards aftershow party to play the first DJ set of the night, and also as an excuse to people watch in the VIP area. It also coincided with assistant Ed's first anniversary with the company - so what better excuse for a party?

Paul drew a line in the sand with the scenes that form around music, bemoaning the rigid rules that need to be adhered to to be considered "true" to them.

The hairier members of Team ABoF (that's Paul and Ed by the way!) took out their razors on November 1st, to rid themselves of their beards in support of Movember.

It's going to be a few days before their 'mos really kick in, so in the meantime it would be great if you could spare some pennies for the cause: Donate to
Paul or Ed - every little bit counts!

    October round-up (stuff we forgot!)...

We have been so busy over the last two months, we completely forgot to send out an October newsletter! Here's what went down last month...

The Lowriders started the month releasing single Who's Gonna Save Your Soul and wrapped it up with their much anticipated debut album, Fury, with one of its tracks, "Big Moustache", earning the much coveted "Track of The Day" on Classic Rock Magazine (online).

Fury was released via Adrenalin Records on October 31st.
You can buy it for £7.99 from iTunes and £6.99 from Amazon.

Mausi's single, Sol was released on October 10th via Racecar Music, enhancing their reputation to produce fun, danceable tunes, building on the pop foundations with subtle disco influences from the likes of Damn Arms and Pony Pony Run Run. They must have done something right, as NME.com featured the fantastic video for their single on their site, and it seems you can't walk into a Topshop in the UK without hearing the track!

Sol was officially released this week via Racecar Music. You can download it via the band's official website.

The Unkindness Of Ravens made a triumphant return to the UK with their new single, the double A-side Virus | Viper.

The single(s) were accompanied by two amazing videos, both of which were featured on Artrocker Magazine (online) (who also gave them a fantastic 4 star review) and NME.com.

Virus | Viper is released via Sonic Fire Records. The single is available to buy on iTunes, but you can buy it cheaper via the band's Bandcamp page.

    November Goodies

Coming up in November, we've got two brilliant new debut releases from The Birthday Suit (Rod Jones of Idlewild) and The Moth & The Mirror (featuring members of Arab Strap, Frightened Rabbit and Admiral Fallow).

Idlewild guitarist / songwriter Rod Jones, is back with a remarkable new solo project, The Birthday Suit. Their debut album, The Eleventh Hour, is a return to the noisy pop moments that originally established him as a legend in the UK music scene.

This debut offering sees him deliver some of the most passionate, fiery and powerful songs he has ever written. It creates a sound that captures the sound of early Idlewild albums, such as 100 Broken Windows - an album that was recently voted the number one Scottish album of the last decade by readers of The Skinny magazine.

The Eleventh Hour is due for release on 11th of November 2011 via Sing It Alone Records. You can stream and download the album track "Do You Ever?" via the ABoF Soundcloud page.

Honestly, This World is the band's debut album following on from their first official release, the single, Germany. ABoF Friday News Round-Up!

    Posted Fri, 21 Oct 2011
It's been another busy week at ABoF HQ, as we've seen the press pouring in for our artists' almost faster than we can write about it! This week also marks the one year anniversary of us taking on our assistant Ed, and it's reminded us just how fast the time can fly when your busy and having fun!

The band were also chosen as The 405's Band Of The Day, and Rod Jones also took the time to chat to AAA Music about his latest solo project - so not a bad week at all, despite the unfortunate postponement of their UK tour.

ABoF will be gracing the pages of next week's issue of NME. Paul and Claire, amongst other independent folk working in music, were interviewed about A Badge of Friendship, what we do and how we started.

We'll also be dusting off our glad rags on Monday evening, and heading down to the Q Awards aftershow at the Cafe De Paris to bust out an ABoF flavoured DJ set. This is the second time we've DJ-ed the aftershow, last year we DJ-ed before Mark Ronson and the Chemical Brothers. It's one of our favourite events so we'll make sure we take some pictures and post them up next week!

Our friend at Songs Heard On Fast Trains was more than a little impressed with the band's debut release, describing the album as "a rich, complex and sometimes overwhelming brew". The review is incredibly detailed, so head over to the site where you can also listen to the Headron remix of the album track and single, Germany.

Yes, that's 11.11.11! So, no excuses, make sure you grab yourself a copy when the album is released via Sing It Alone Records.

The band have been proclaimed as a Scottish supergroup, comprising of members taken from an array of Scottish talent including: Stacey Sievwright from The Reindeer Section and Arab Strap (vocals/guitar), Gordon Skene from Frightened Rabbit (guitar/vocals), Louis Abbott from Admiral Fallow and Song of Return (guitar/vocals) Kevin McCarvel (bass), Iain Sandilands (percussion) and Peter Murch (drums).

  • Introducing. . . The Moth & The MIrror

    Posted Thu, 29 Sep 2011

"...their debut could be the stuff of beauty."
    The Skinny

The Moth & The Mirror have been proclaimed as a Scottish supergroup, comprising of members taken from an array of Scottish talent including: Stacey Sievwright from The Reindeer Section and Arab Strap (vocals/guitar), Gordon Skene from Frightened Rabbit (guitar/vocals), Louis Abbott from Admiral Fallow and Song of Return (guitar/vocals) Kevin McCarvel (bass), Iain Sandilands (percussion) and Peter Murch (drums).

You can listen to Germany (Headron Remix), a remix of one of their album tracks, on the ABoF SoundCloud page.

The Moth & The Mirror have already built themselves quite the reputation, making appearances at T in the Park, Connect Festival, The West End Festival, Belladrum and Sounds in the Grounds on the Isle of Lewis. They have also supported the likes of Snow Patrol, Band of Horses, Frightened Rabbit, Asobi Seksu, Tilly And The Wall and The Constantines and were one of the featured artists on Conor Oberst’s (Bright Eyes) Team Love, alongside Gruff Rhys and Jenny Lewis.

Honestly, This World will be released on 7th November 2011 via Olive Grove Records as a download and limited edition CD.
