The Maginot Band Single ‘Sombre Fayre’ Out Now!
The Maginot Band release their brand new single, Sombre Fayre, today via When You Awake Records.
Arriving hot on the heels of their well received Christmas single, Veiled Clock, the Scots continue to demonstrate their ability to write contemporary yet challenging pop tunes, with a nod to classic genres of yesteryear the like of which The Band and The Beach Boys would be proud of.

There is a real earthy feel to the music The Maginot Band write and continue to explore. Sombre Fayre has moments of whimsical reflection and poignancy pouring out of the lyric content; while the music fluctuates in pace and mood, building towards a raucous conclusion at odds with the more melancholic nature of the track.
The Maginot Band, consisting of Jordan Shearer (vocals), Calvin Wilson (bass, vocals), Kevin Swanson (guitar, Vocals), Jamie Swanson (guitar), Liam Whittles (organ, piano) and Darren Coghill (drums) have made great strides since the release of their debut EP last year. The band have picked up support from the likes of God Is In The TV, BBC Introducing in Scotland,Largehearted Boy and The Vinyl District as well as featuring in Jim Gellatly's column in The Scottish Sun.
With the release of Sombre Fayre this month and a live set at Madhatters in Inverness on February 9th, The Maginot Band aim to continue to make strides into the hearts and homes of music lovers in the UK.

After numerous changes to their line-up, they finally settled as a six piece in late 2010 consisting of Jordan Shearer (vocals), Calvin Wilson (bass, vocals), Kevin Swanson (guitar, Vocals), Jamie Swanson (guitar), Liam Whittles (organ, piano) and Darren Coghill (drums). Since the release of their debut EP and follow up single, the band have picked up support from the likes of God Is In The TV, BBC Introducing Scotland, Largehearted Boy and The Vinyl District as well as a feature in Jim Gellatly's column in The Scottish Sun.
With the release of Sombre Fayre this month, a live set at Madhatters, Inverness on February 9th, as well as setting up dates for later in the year, The Maginot Band are aiming to make the most of 2013.

Scotland’s The Maginot Band return with their very own festive single, Veiled Clock, released via When You Awake Records and free to download now.
Veiled Clock continues the band's exploration of a contemporary indie sound not unlike The Maccabees and the Mystery Jets spliced with a classic, retro overtone
- the chiming guitars and the echoing, harmonised vocals is reminiscent of sixties greats The Band and The Beach Boys. The track is given a Christmas flavour with the inclusion of choir like backing vocals and the use of sleigh bells. While the video consists of old black and white footage of children playing in the snow during the war, as the footage cuts between the blissful ignorance and happiness of the children, and the mass destruction of war - both human and material. Not particularly uplifting, but anyone who has seen It's A Wonderful Life will know that Christmas doesn't always evoke joy and goodwill.

Veiled Clock is the first release by the band since the success of their debut EP Peace and Quiet. Having initially formed as Maydays, The Maginot Band, who hail from Caithness, have been writing music together on and off for the past decade. After numerous changes to their line-up, they finally settled as a six piece in late 2010 consisting of Jordan Shearer (vocals), Calvin Wilson (bass, vocals), Kevin Swanson (guitar, Vocals), Jamie Swanson (guitar), Liam Whittles (organ, piano) and Darren Coghill (drums). Since the change of name and the release of their debut EP, the band have picked up support from the likes of Song By Toad, BBC Introducing in Scotland, Drunken Werewolf and The Vinyl District and are looking to continue to develop their sound with every release.
2012 has been a busy introduction for The Maginot Band having released their EP, followed that up with the free single Veiled Clock and due aim to release another single in January.

Released today: Vigo Thieves single ‘Forever’ and The Maginot Band’s ‘Peace and Quiet’ EP
Vigo Thieves - 'Forever'
Vigo Thieves return with their brand new free download single Forever. The track is accompanied by a superb video starring Jody Latham of Shameless and Eastenders fame.

Forever is another big, bold anthemic tune from Vigo Thieves. The track further emphasises the sound the band have worked tirelessly to develop and hone over the last few years – electro style synths, driven, snapping drum beats and soaring, heartfelt vocals. The release tops off a fantastic year to date for the band, after the successful release of their Heart and Soul (Part 1) EP. Gaining support from the likes of Classic Rock Magazine, The 405, The Daily Record, Drowned In Sound Scotland, BBC Radio 1 Scotland and Clyde 1 FM. Vigo Thieves have soared as the momentum has built throughout the year.
The single Heartbeats attracted over 50,000 viewers on Youtube, leading to the track being chosen as the soundtrack to the T in the Park announcement film. An appearance at T in the Park on the BBC Introducing Stage saw a huge crowd gather as the boys rocked their first appearance at a major summer festival. The interest continued with the release of a second single from the EP, She’s On Fire, which pulled in 45,000 views and cemented Vigo Thieves position as one of the up and coming bands currently performing in the UK.
September will be another busy month for the band as they embark on a short UK tour, which sees them take in London, Edinburgh and Glasgow to coincide with the release of Forever.

Scotland’s The Maginot Band are due to release their debut EP, Peace and Quiet, via When You Awake Records on 10th September 2012.
Peace and Quiet EP straddles the line between retro-tinged wistfulness and a more modern indie sound akin to bands like The Maccabees and the Mystery Jets. The chiming guitars, rolling beats and upbeat keys of “Slow Down Sundial” is reminiscent of sixties greats The Band. However, with “Trees” and “Waking Up To Rain (Part 1)” the boys change tact with a slower, more thoughtful ballad as vocalist Jordan Shearer singing on the latter,”Abide by the rules that were set before us, like nobody moves and no one gets hurt, and nobody changes we’ll all stay the same”. “Waking Up To Rain (Part 2)” finishes the EP with a flourish as a cacophony of drums, vocals and piercing organ envelope the listener one last time, raising the tempo and the cheer.
