Video Exclusive: Phantom “Voodoo Romantic”
Phantom recently released their gorgeously dark and simply stunning debut album Smoke & Mirrors.
The first single to be lifted from the album was Voodoo Romantic, which was released as a free download single at the beginning of August. The single, available to download gratis from the band's official website, has received Track of the Day accolades from the likes of Q and Classic Rock.
The video for Voodoo Romantic reflects the mood of the album and is heavily influenced by surrealism, Man Ray and Duchamp. Enough talk! We'll let the video speak for itself.

Smoke & Mirrors creates a new percussive landscape for Phantom's music. They used recordings of places, objects and sounds found organically around them, both familiar and alien: an antique typewriter thump, the flap of a letter dropping through a letter box, heels clicking on concrete, the Mars Space Rover rumbling across the surface of the red planet. Each sound has been carefully treated and morphed into a rhythm to support compositions.
Phantom's strength is being able to create an atmosphere; therefore it's apt that the album - provided in two 22-minute parts with no track marks - is seamless when played in sequence. The songs build and bleed into one another just as they do during Phantom's captivating live set. A remix of "We Float" by Death In Plains is also featured on the album. Death In Plains is a visual/musical adventure, the brainchild of Enrico Boccioletti, who creates a sound that joins Fuck Buttons to Jesus and Mary Chain via MGMT.
Smoke & Mirrors mysteriously transports you into Phantom's world of alluring, sensual sounds, captivating your imagination and enticing you into their silky neo-noir musical landscapes.

Phantom Tour Diary - Part 1!

Phantom Friday Freakout!
What better way to start the weekend than with our favourite London gloomgaze duo - Phantom. The pair release their next single Voodoo Romantic (a free download, which you can grab HERE by the way!) on August 2nd 2010 and debut album Smoke & Mirrors on August 17th 2010 and they're the latest band on the Artrocker site to contribute to Artrocker's Friday Freakout.

Phantom release a free download only single - Voodoo Romantic - on 2nd August 2010. This will be the band's second single but the first to be released from their forthcoming debut album Smoke & Mirrors. The album us out on La Nausée Records on August 16th 2010.
The album creates a new percussive landscape for their music. They used recordings of places, objects and sounds found organically around them, both familiar and alien: an antique typewriter thump, the flap of a letter dropping through a letter box, heels clicking on concrete, the Mars Space Rover rumbling across the surface of the red planet. Each sound has been carefully treated and morphed into a rhythm to support compositions.
Voodoo Romantic uses these aforementioned sounds and builds into an incredibly haunting crescendo with Elsie’s unique and sensual tones calling out over the echoes and beats. The single is akin to the sound of The Cure with the tone similar to the seminal band’s brooding, somber album Faith.You can download the single from the band's brand new official website. Phantom's Elsie and Jonny
Montreal-born, Phantom chanteuse, guitarist and songwriter Elsie Martins was known in her Canadian homeland as a much-loved MusiquePlus music television presenter/journalist. Elsie left a burgeoning television career to relocate to London, UK, where she met Jonny Martin and formed Phantom.
Phantom’s debut single,Great Pretender, was released in September 2009. It was produced by James Aparicio, who's worked alongside bands such as XX Teens, These New Puritans and Phantom favourites Nick Cave and Mogwai.

Phantom's world domination continues! The band released their debut single Great Pretender on September 28th 2009 via Parallax Sounds and the response has been phenomenal.The Quietus are the latest website to cover the gloomgaze pioneers. Ben Hewitt at The Quietus recently interviewed Phantom's Elsie Martins as part of their new band feature entitled Escape Velocity.

Phantom are to record an acoustic performance and interview for online TV channel, Musio Music TV.
