Misterlee and Ex Libras in Glasgow Podcart!
Our very own Misterlee and Ex Libras both feature on this week's Glasgow Podcart's episode 50 Eternal Sunshine of the Podcart Mind. Halina and Sean present another cracking podcast in tribute to Valentines Day (in their own wee twisted way). Misterlee is no stranger to the music scene. Having already released a plethora of acclaimed records, he's also shared a stage with many musical greats - Jeffrey Lewis, Sebadoh, Duke Special and Mountain Goats to name but a few. He's also played events like Summer Sundae Weekender, the Secret Garden Party Festival and guested on the Resonance FM sessions and enjoyed plays on BBC6 Music.
Misterlee's influences are as unconventional as his sound. Lee Allatson was raised in a home filled with the songs of greats such as Scott Walker and The Beatles but conversely also the twisted renditions of acts like Captain Beefheart. This quiet lanky lad was given to telling tall stories about travelling the world (over a weekend), far away from his Leicester birthplace. The drums stuck a bit, as did the Ukelele his guitar playing dad bought him one birthday, but it was the drum kit and wider percussives that would expose him to ska, orchestral, rock and jazz music.
These eclectic influences are apparent on his forthcoming album this disquiet dog. The album pushes boundaries - it's hard to pin a genre to Misterlee. There are elements of punk, prog, rock and spoken word. Listening to the album is like going on a weird and wonderful musical tour of Allaston’s creative mind – once you return you'll never be the same again.
