Christmas Compilation & 2012 Year RoundUp!

We're about to hang-up our PR hats for the year as we reflect on a successful 2012 year here at ABoF HQ. We started the year event managing a party for HP and Last.fm featuring David Guetta on the decks, we then found ourselves managing Doug Stanhope's campaign for his latest DVD - Before Turning the Gun on Himself - and spent the rest of the year working on an array of brilliant bands and labels.
To get you into the festive spirit, we asked some of our roster to cover their favourite Christmas songs. The 405 featured the compilation exclusively on their site but each track is now available to download via our Soundcloud page.

- Three Blind Wolves - "Parade"

So, now you've seen and heard with your eyes and ears what we've been up to in 2012, what's in store for next year we hear you ask! You know us, we're going to be busy as ever. We're planning on relaunching ABoF TV at some point next year as well as taking on board some exciting new bands - Homework, The Caulfield Beats and Artifacts. Scottish based label Olive Grove and our favourite German label dudes Sinnbus will be releasing more brilliant records as well as some of the current acts on our roster.
We'll have more news for you all in 2013 but for now, we'd like to say a massive thank you to the magazines, websites, freelancers, bloggers, radio producers and DJs who've supported us and our bands this year.

Knifeworld - Clairvoyant Fortnight
Knifeworld return with their strongest release to date - Clairvoyant Fortnight, out now on Believers Roast. The EP follows 2011’s critically acclaimed EP Dear Lord, No Deal and their 2009 debut album Buried Alone: Tales of Crushing Defeat. With their trademark uncompromising psychedelia in full effect, Knifeworld still sound like no-one else. Intense and kaleidoscopic, this release offers another piece of the curious jigsaw.
The radio edit of the title track "Clairvoyant Fortnight" is available to download now from our Soundcloud page. You can also watch the fantastic video featuring snooker legend Steve Davis via Knifeworld's YouTube page now.
Turnpike Glow - Inflatable Optimism
Turnpike Glow will release their debut EP Inflatable Optimism today on Fünke Pop Records. The 4-track EP, mixed by Broken Social Scene and Los Campesinos producer Dave Newfeld, perfectly encapsulates their infectious indie pop sensibilities; the EP is the perfect little slice of Turnpike Glow’s agenda - honest, unabashed indie exuberance. The band have previously received airplay from Absolute Radio’s Frank Skinner and heavy support from Amazing Radio. Spinner featured previous single 1986 as their Video of the Day whilst Classic Rock awarded their latest single release The Turn, The Pike and The Glow their Track of the Day, BBC 6Music's Tom Robinson hailed their music as "perky upbeat synthy indiepop" and websites like The 405 have hailed the band as “ludicrously catchy”.
The EP is available to stream exclusively on This Is Fake DIY and you can grab a copy for yourself from Turnpike Glow's Bandcamp page.
Night Noise Team - Pieces
Night Noise Team are release the EP Pieces today via Permwhale Recordings. Pieces displays the band’s multitude of influences – ranging from Serge Gainsbourg to The Smiths to Phoenix - with repetitive catchy, electronic beats that wouldn’t be out of place on a Daft Punk record. Meanwhile, their melodic, harmonised pop-laden vocals are backed up by funky synths, which would make even the likes of Earth, Wind and Fire proud! There is a sense of freshness, guile and clever detail in the bands songwriting that develops subtly throughout the EP, meaning the listener is exposed to something new every time they press the play button.
Night Noise Team's EP is available to buy from their Bandcamp page, you can also check out the video for "Pieces" on YouTube.
The Murder Barn - Harvest / America
The Murder Barn are a London based six piece, ready to unleash their own earthy brand of alternative rock this summer with their debut double A-side single Harvest / America, out now. With this offering, the band showcase both their brilliant songwriting talent and their ability to weave a wonderful story around the melodies as well. “America” channels influences such as The Bad Seeds and David Lynch, and wouldn’t be amiss on the soundtrack for 70s folk horror cult classics like The Wicker Man. “Harvest” takes a slightly different direction, with the music and vocals taking on a heavier mantle much more akin to PJ Harvey and Anna Calvi.
The Murder Barn's double a-side single is available to buy via their Bandcamp page now as a limited edition 7-inch vinyl or digital download. You can also watch the videos for "America" and "Harvest" on their YouTube page.
Knifeworld release video for “Clairvoyant Fortnight”!

"...an ambitious, psychadelic wash of melodies..." - Prog Magazine
Ahead of their forthcoming EP Clairvoyant Fortnight, out on 11th June 2012, Knifeworld have released the video for title track of the EP. The video reflects the songs playful nature and the band's upbeat sense of humour with frontman Kavus Torabi leading a prog induced séance ending in the appearance of snooker legend Steve Davis!
The EP follows 2011’s critically acclaimed EP Dear Lord, No Deal and their 2009 debut album Buried Alone: Tales of Crushing Defeat. With their trademark uncompromising psychedelia in full effect, Knifeworld still sound like no-one else. Intense and kaleidoscopic, Clairvoyant Fortnight EP offers another piece of the curious jigsaw.
Clairvoyant Fortnight (Radio Edit), the free single and title track of the EP is available to download via our Soundcloud page. The full version of the track will be available on the EP.
With Clairvoyant Fortnight, former Cardiacs guitarist Kavus Torabi (vox, guitar) has managed to create an eclectic combination musicians with Ben Woollaccott (drums), Charlie Cawood (bass), Chrome Hoof members Emmett Elvin and Chloe Herrington (keyboards and sax, bassoon respectively) and former Cardiacs vocalist Melanie Woods (vox) joining him on his “bubblegum prog” journey.
Heavy support has already come from Prog Magazine (formerly Classic Rock Prog), Rock Sound, The Quietus and Rock A Rolla to name a few. Knifeworld already have the alt rock world covered but with this latest offering, they hope to bring some attention to a wider audience with fans ranging far and wide from snooker champion Steve Davis to BBC 6Music’s Marc Riley and XFM’s John Kennedy.
With this release, Knifeworld prove that "prog" is not just a genre, but a concept, always changing and adapting. They have have applied this ethos to Clairvoyant Fortnight and have created a vast, intelligent, fun and ever evolving sound with few barriers or limitations.
Clairvoyant Fortnight is out on June 11th 2012 via Believers Roast.

Knifeworld to release “Clairvoyant Fortnight” EP!

"...an ambitious, psychadelic wash of melodies..." - Prog Magazine
Knifeworld return with their strongest release to date - Clairvoyant Fortnight, out on Believers Roast, 11th June 2012. The EP follows 2011’s critically acclaimed EP Dear Lord, No Deal and their 2009 debut album Buried Alone: Tales of Crushing Defeat.

Clairvoyant Fortnight (Radio Edit), the free single and title track of the EP is available to download via our Soundcloud page. The full version of the track will be available on the EP.
Opener “Clairvoyant Fortnight” sees Knifeworld unwittingly create “Bubblegum Prog”. In fact, the EP is the sound of three pop songs forced at gunpoint into one, establishing the energetic, playful nature of what’s to come. “In A ForeignWay” showcases Kavus Torabi's knack for well constructed inventive composition, with melodic sensibilities not unlike XTC and Frank Zappa. The EP closes with the epic “The Prime Of Our Decline”, displaying a sound closer to avant-garde Zeuhl artists such as France’s Magma and Japan’s Koenji Hyakkei. It may well be Knifeworld's most musically dense piece yet. Goose-bump inducing key changes accompany the soaring vocals while the brief interlude of staccato guitars and brass melodies reveals the band's more experimental tendencies. The result of this boundary pushing EP, is a success on every level from musicianship, catchy tunes and experimental psychedelia.
With Clairvoyant Fortnight, former Cardiacs guitarist Kavus Torabi (vox, guitar) has managed to create an eclectic combination musicians with Ben Woollaccott (drums), Charlie Cawood (bass), Chrome Hoof members Emmett Elvin and Chloe Herrington (keyboards and sax, bassoon respectively) and former Cardiacs vocalist Melanie Woods (vox) joining him on his “bubblegum prog” journey.

Knifeworld’s Kavus Torabi and Steve Davis interviewed by The Quietus

It's Friday, the weekend is coyly peeking around the corner, so what better excuse is there to take a long lunch with Knifeworld's Kavus Torabi and former snooker player, cum alternative music aficionado, Steve Davis?
The Quietus caught up with the duo at the King Charles I pub in Kings Cross to discuss their mutual love for French prog rock band, Magma, the album or performance that turned them on to the underground scene, and Davis' regular radio slot (on which Kavus frequently acts as co-host), The Interesting Alternative Show on Phoenix FM. Be sure to check out the full interview.
Knifeworld released EP Dear Lord, No Deal via Believers Roast in July last year. You can download the EP for £3.49 from iTunes.

Her previous single One Morning was accompanied by an enchanting video, shot in her hometown of Berlin, and was extremely well received by BBC 6 Music.
Her self titled EP is released today Zube Records, and to give you a little taster of what to expect, she's giving away the first track - "Indie Electro Pop" - absolutely free.
You can also check the music video for the song on Zube's YouTube page.

Knifeworld - "Pilot Her"

Knifeworld is the vehicle for Kavus Torabi's unique and progressive psychedelic songwriting. Torabi, former frontman for The Monsoon Bassoon and guitarist in Cardiacs and Guapo, initially conceived Knifeworld as a solo outing but following the critically acclaimed 2009 release of debut album Buried Alone: Tales Of Crushing Defeat, he expanded the project into a full six piece band.
Their forthcoming EP, Dear Lord, No Deal, has already picked up some great features from the likes of Rock A Rolla, with more to come in the following months from acclaimed music website TheQuietus and specialist prog magazine Classic Rock Prog.
Explosive opening track "Pilot Her" marries the opposing forces of breakneck punk rock with a blend of farfisa, rhodes, saxophone and bassoon in an urgent, melodic paeon to music. Soaring bittersweet vocal harmonies and knotty rhythms collide in Knifeworld's most direct and immediate song thus far.
Dear Lord, No Deal is due to be released digitally on 4th July 2011, via Believers Roast.

Marina Celeste - "Under My Skin"

Originally discovered at 22 by Marc Collin, of Nouvelle Vague fame, French pop starlet Marina Celeste is no stranger to taking the spotlight, having toured the world and selling over half a million records during the course of her career.
She was described as having "...the voice of an angel." by Le Parisien.
The Angel Pop is Marina's third solo album, and sees her collaborating with the legendary Terry Hall (The Specials, Fun Boy Three). She originally met Terry while duetting with him on the Nouvelle Vague track “Our Lips Are Sealed”, which led the pair to reunite in Paris.
"Under My Skin" is one of Marina's original tracks taken from the album, and showcases the juxtaposition of intense sensuality and innocence her vocal style embodies.
The Angel Pop is released via Camly Records on July 4th.

Knifeworld to release “Dear Lord, No Deal” EP

"Explosions of intricate melodies, twisting sometimes angular time changes and blatant sense of adventure. It's challenging but wholly worthwhile."
- Classic Rock presents Prog Magazine
After playing a vital part in the release of Leader Of The Starry Skies: A Tribute To Tim Smith, Knifeworld have joined forces with A Badge Of Friendship to promote the release of their new EP, the progressive masterpiece Dear Lord, No Deal. It's not set for release until July 4th, but the record has already attracted the attention of publications such as Rock A Rolla, The Quietus, and Classic Rock Prog Magazine, all of whom will be featuring the band in upcoming features over the next few months.
Featuring renowned Iraqi oud player Khyam Allami (drums), North Sea Radio Orchestra mastermind Craig Fortnam (bass), Chrome Hoof members Emmett Elvin and Chloe Herrington (keyboards and sax/bassoon respectively) and former Cardiacs vocalist Melanie Woods (vox), this EP is the first recording of the full band line up.If you can't see the trailer for Knifeworld's new EP Dear Lord, No Deal below, check it out on the band's YouTube page.
Dear Lord, No Deal, the EP's title track, crams more ideas into two minutes than most bands can muster on a whole album, with its lolloping pace and summery melancholia. The track is all lysergic sonics and giddy kitchen sink production; it's a beautiful Syd Barrett-esque pop tune that demands repeat listens. Closing track "HMS Washout", is a nautical epic, and is easily Knifeworld's most ambitious song to date. This fourteen minute psychedelic tour de force is a kaleidoscopic journey into rock's outer reaches showcasing a band that are comfortable enough to experiment with contrasting sounds, while pursuing a greater musical truth.
